In order to ensure that your lawn always looks its best, there are a number of treatments that can be carried out during various parts of the year. GF Garden Services will always follow the “Lawn Calendar” when considering product application. At times, under performing or over utilised lawns may require additional feeds, treatments or other action.
Lawn Treatments
In order to ensure that your lawn is performing at always looking at its best, it may require additional attention now and again.
The standard Lawn Calender is broken down into four quarters –
- January to March
- April to June
- July to September
- October to December
During these periods, various treatments can be applied to help boost its performance and visual appearance. Such treatments will assist with –
- Greening and Thickening
- Encourage healthy growth
- Control Moss and Weeds
- Tackle Lawn Disease.

Scarification
Scarification of a lawn is carried out by a special machine. It’s purpose is to remove thatch and moss and stimulate new growth,
It can be a harsh process and lawns will initially look worse. However, it will ultimately improve its appearance. This process needs to be carried out at the correct time of the growing season to ensure a quick recovery. The best time to carry out this procedure is –
- Late Spring (April – onwards)
- Autumn (September)
For best results, the lawn needs to be cut before scarification takes place and where moss is evident, a suitable treatment should be applied a few weeks before.
Following scarification, any bare patches can be over-seeded.

Aeration
This process enables the soil to provide a healthy supply of air, water and nutrients to the grass encouraging health growth.
Dependant on soil type, the main methods of for this are –
- Spiking
- Hollow Tining
Soil type will help determine which action is required.
